The Boulder County Public Health works with food establishments to perform health inspections and provide consultations. Their goal is to ensure the safety of consumers in the Boulder area by performing several types of health inspections such as regular, routine, complaints, follow up and foodborne investigations. The health inspectors verify the establishment procedures in regard to food temperature control, good hygiene practices, prevention of food contamination, and many others. The inspections focus on the most common contributing factors of foodborne illnesses and work to prevent them.
The regular inspections consist of verifying compliance with the Colorado’s food safety regulations and citing any operational and structural violations found at the time of the inspection; the routine inspections focus on the establishment’s food handling and preparation practices and check for potential sources of food contamination; follow up inspections check if violations cited in a previous inspection have been corrected; investigation inspections are inspections performed as a result of a foodborne illness in a food establishment, the inspector examines and documents the causes of the foodborne illness; complaint inspections are a result of a consumer complaint, it could due to food safety or general sanitation concerns.
